Became the first Black engineer for the city and county of San Francisco and the first recorded Black member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, later founding an organization to introduce engineering to Black youth in Northern California.

Life & background

An engineer, Grant became the first African American graduate of UC Berkeley's College of Engineering, going on to become the first Black engineer employed by the city and county of San Francisco, where he addressed water engineering issues, and the first recorded Black member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He later founded the Northern California Council of Black Professional Engineers to introduce the engineering field to Black youth.
